It has a warm temperate climate (Köppen Cfa) with hot summers, cool winters, and all-year rainfall that is usually adequate for viticulture.

Later on, his son John took over the vineyard and renamed it ‘Peter Drayton’ after his son who had died young. Today, the winery has been passed down through three generations of the Drayton family, who have continued to produce premium wines from their vintage grapes.
The winery has won numerous awards including Best Wine Producer in Australia at Decanter World Wine Awards 2016 and Australian Wine Showcase Awards 2016.

The Brokenwood winery was established by the Hordern family in 1878. The family has been growing grapes for over 100 years, so they know what they are doing! They have a large range of wines that are available to taste at their cellar door.

There are also several accommodation options if you want to stay overnight. You can choose between cabins, rooms or suites depending on your budget and needs.
Brokenwood is a small village in the Hunter Valley, situated between Cessnock and Kurri Kurri. It was established as a mining town when gold was discovered in the area in 1851.
The Brokenwood goldfield was proclaimed on 6 January 1852 by Governor FitzRoy, who named it after his father-in-law, Sir Charles Brokenwood (1778–1843), a British army officer and politician who served as Governor of Bombay from 1834 to 1837.
In 1852, the first mine in Brokenwood began operating. The town was surveyed soon after, with allotments sold at public auction on 1 December 1852.
By April 1853, there were about 20 houses and shanties scattered along both sides of what is now called Main Road (formerly Main Street).
Most of these buildings were constructed from local materials mud bricks or slab timber but one cottage at the corner of Main Road and Newcastle Street survives as an example of early miner dwellings built from sawn timber and iron nails.

Our first vintage was in 2003, however we have been growing grapes for more than 25 years using traditional methods of farming and winemaking. We grow all our own grapes on our own vineyards close to Branxton and Pokolbin in the Hunter Valley.
The property has been producing premium wines for more than 130 years, with the first vintage being made in 1902. In 1988, McWilliams Hanwood Estate was awarded ‘Best Winery’ at the Royal Sydney Show.
McWilliams Hanwood Estate produces an extensive range of wines including reds, whites, fortifieds and sparkling wines. The vineyard also features a restaurant and cellar door where you can sample some of Australia’s finest wines straight from the barrel.

First Creek Wines is a family owned and operated vineyard and winery located in the heart of Hunter Valley Wine Country. First Creek Wines was established in 1999 by husband and wife team, Paul & Janine Green.

Over the years, First Creek Wines has grown from a small boutique producer to one of the largest independent family owned wine companies in Australia. Tamburlaine is a small family owned and operated organic winery located at the Wahroonga end of the Hunter Valley, near Pokolbin. The winery was established by Bruce and Gail Campbell in 1988, who have been making wines since 1976.
They are currently joined by their son Steve and daughter-in-law Alison to make this a family affair. The vineyard at Tamburlaine consists of 40 acres of mainly shiraz planted on free draining soils over granite.
The vines are certified organic and are grown with minimal intervention apart from a light dressing of seaweed based nutrients once every two years.
The grapes are hand picked at optimum ripeness and then crushed into open top fermenters where they undergo spontaneous fermentation. The wines then spend 6 months in new French oak barrels before bottling.
Tamburlaine Organic Wines has been crafting beautiful wines since 2009. With a focus on organic viticulture, the Hunter Valley based winery prides itself on producing premium quality wines from a range of grape varieties including Shiraz, Grenache and Cabernet Sauvignon.
The wines are made with minimal intervention, meaning no additives or preservatives are used during the winemaking process. This not only ensures the wines retain their flavour and character but also makes them suitable for even the most discerning palates.
