Wineries in northern massachusetts, Winemaking in the Northeast has become a hot topic due to the shifting climate, post-modern winemaking techniques and a multitude of new wine regions opening up.
The Northern Massachusetts wineries offer a great experience for tasting and savoring wines made from unusual grape varieties for their region. Drinking wine in New England can be tricky.
Since it is so cold much of the year, many vineyards concentrate on making ice wine and dessert wines to combat the harsh climate.
The New England region is home to many wineries, with some of the oldest and most famous in the United States. Vineyards are located in three main areas: northwestern Connecticut, central Massachusetts, and southern New Hampshire.
Northern Massachusetts is an amazing place to have a wedding, have a picnic or visit some of the best wineries in the state. There are so many great places to visit that you’ll need to find more than one day. Make notes as you travel, you’ll want to go back every year and try something new.
Massachusetts is a good state for wine lovers. There are numerous wineries in northern Massachussetts. These wineries in northern Massachusetts make wines from different types of grapes. Wines from the different regions have different properties and qualities.

Wineries in northern massachusetts
There are many wineries in northern Massachusetts. We are going to look at a few of the best ones that you can visit whether you are going with your family or friends. The first winery we will be looking at is Longmeadow Vineyards.
This vineyard was started in 1986 by Greg and Lynn Matulis and has grown into one of the most successful vineyards in all of New England. They started out with just 2 acres, but now they have 12 acres and produce over 20 different wines including Chardonnay, Cabernet Franc and Pinot Noir.
The next winery we will look at is Hilltop Orchards & Winery. This vineyard is located in Sturbridge, Massachusetts and produces over 30 varieties of grapes including Pinot Noir and Cabernet Franc.
The owners here have been growing grapes since they were teenagers so they really know what they are doing when it comes to making wine!
Our third winery is called New England Wine Company & Vineyard which was founded in 1989 by Richard Gaffin III who wanted to create something special for his family. He planted his first vines on his land when he was only 10 years old!
The vines that he planted are still producing grapes today which makes them one of the oldest vineyards in Massachusetts. The current owner is Richard’s son, Robert Gaffin IV who has been making wine since he was 15 years old!
The winery is located on a beautiful property just off of Route 495 near the Vermont border. There’s a tasting room right off of the parking lot where you can sample their wines before heading over to the picnic area and enjoying some food on their patio.
We had a chance to try some of their wines and they were all delicious! They have many different varieties available so even if you’re not sure what kind of wine you like, this is a great place to start your wine tasting journey!
