This temple has been built in 1868 by an Indian worker named Ram Chandra Ramji Gupta with his own money and effort. This temple was built near his house (nowadays it is called Shree Hanumanji Temple).
Le Grand Temple de la Compagnie – This is the most famous temple in Mauritius. It was built by Indian labourers who came to Mauritius to work on sugar plantations in the 19th century.
The temple can be found at La Riviere des Anguilles near Port Louis. The original structure was destroyed by fire in 1831, but it was rebuilt in 1833 with a more spacious design and inaugurated on July 21st 1834.
The temple was closed down in 1838 due to financial difficulties but reopened again in 1841 under the patronage of Sir Jamsetjee Jeejeebhoy, who also contributed towards its renovation. It is now managed by the Le Grand Temple de la Compagnie Trust.
